Happy Holidays!

The number 7 is special for many reasons. In many communities, it represents perfection. In our bodies, it’s the number of years it takes each cell to regenerate (except for those that don’t), creating an entirely “new you.” It’s  also the number of days in a week and it’s the number of years we’ve been married.

When Grant and I married, we had no idea what was in store for us. We slept in. We wasted time waiting in lines for hip new Japanese restaurants. We went to museums that weren’t for kids under 12. We travelled. We stayed up until the moon was tired. We worked hard and we played harder. We had no idea what turns our lives would take, and that the seventh year of our marriage would be as challenging as it would be rewarding.

It took us 7 years of marriage, the birth of our two sons (and all the corresponding changes from being individuals to becoming parents), later-in-life career changes, several years of struggling through law school seeking perfect grades and good job placement, multiple moves, and more hours commuting than any sane person would have tolerated. Finally, it took us 7 years to discover that we enjoyed making music together, returning to the common core that initially drew us to one another, but with the addition of the 2 voices we created together, in Remy and Desy. It took us 7 years to make something that we, as a family, are incredibly proud of.

This gift has been a newfound joy to our family. It’s something that we have and are, and something we can share with those we care about. It’s led us to know each other differently, to work as a team towards a goal, and has calmed the boys in moments of frustration. They have even been known to “sleep sing” the words, waking us all up in the sweet spirit of unity.

This song, Lullaby, was originally written by Grammy Award winner, Dan Wilson, and was performed by both Dan and the Dixie Chicks. Grant and Dan worked together as songwriters years ago, and we are thrilled to be able to use this song as the first for our family.

Please enjoy our gift.

Always,

Grant, Stephanie, Remy and Desy
